Interior Minister Mazen Faraya said that His Majesty King Abdullah II feels "very angry" regarding the martyrdom of Colonel Abdul-Razzaq Al-Dalabeh.

Faraya added in a press conference held Friday at the Ministry of the Interior that Al-Dalabeh was at Al-Husseiniyah to "protect our people in the region."

He added, "We are not strangers to society and we are aware of the difficulties that everyone is facing," stressing, "Violence does not help overcome any difficulties faced by society."

Faraya noted that there are strict security measures taken in areas witnessing riots.

He called on citizens to avoid places that witness acts of violence.

Faraya said that some truck drivers who wanted to get back to work received threats, noting that the government has given everything the striking truck drivers asked for.

"The economic situation is difficult, and we hope to reduce prices next month," Faraya said.

He stressed the government is "committed to respecting freedom of expression."

For his part, Director of the Public Security Obaidullah Al-Maaytah said that the protests derailed and resulted in blocking roads and damaging public property.

Maaytah noted that 70 public security vehicles and 98 private vehicles were damaged during the protests.

The press conference came to discuss the recent events in Jordan, the riots that took place in Ma'an Governorate, which resulted in the death of Colonel Abdul-Razzaq Al-Dalabeh, and the injury of two members of the Public Security Directorate.

Those present at the press conference, according to the Prime Ministry’s announcement, are the Minister of Interior, Mazen Al-Faraya, the Minister of Government Communication, Faisal Al-Shboul, and the Director of Public Security, Major General Obaidullah Al-Maaytah.

Earlier the official spokesperson for the government Faisal Al-Shboul said Friday that the Council of Ministers mourns the death of Colonel Abdul-Razzaq Al-Dalabeh, who was “assassinated by evil hands while he was carrying out his official duty in the Husseiniya area in Ma'an Governorate."

Shboul added that the cabinet condemns this treacherous and cowardly attack and affirms that justice will prevail and the killers will be referred to a fair judiciary to receive their punishment.
