The permanent office of the House of Representatives issued a statement Monday confirming that it is following up on the developments in the transport sector.

The statement said, “We representatives, government and citizens who stand together for the homeland will not accept any prejudice to its security and stability.”

The statement came after a meeting that aimed at pointing out the efforts and steps taken by the government regarding the transport sector file. The meeting brought together Parliament Speaker Ahmad Safadi, members of the permanent office, heads of parliamentary committees and blocs, and a number of ministers.

The permanent office stressed the need for action to be taken by all concerned parties to find appropriate solutions, with the need to abide by the law, maintain national security, and prevent attacks on roads, people, and public and private property.

Safadi said that the meeting comes within the framework of the government's parliamentary pledge to cooperate in order to achieve the supreme national interest.

He said that quick solutions for the transport sector were discussed during the meeting, stressing that the parliament is keen on cooperating with the government in addressing national tasks with full responsibility.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan confirmed that the government is keen on listening to the demands of all sectors, has responded since day one to the requests of workers in the freight sector, and is in contact with all concerned parties in this sector.

The meeting concluded with the formation of a governmental parliamentary committee that includes the heads of the finance, energy, and transportation committees in the House of Representatives with the competent ministers from the government.

The committee strives to discuss the solutions presented by the heads of committees and parliamentary blocs in the transportation file, and other proposals related to postponing loans from banks and lending institutions and extending the defense order related to the imprisonment of the debtor.

Sunday, Lorry and public transport drivers in Jordan reached an agreement to end a week-long strike over an increase in fuel prices, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Bus Owners' Association and Transport Services and Taxi Owners' Union agreed to end the strike as of Monday morning. This came after an increase in cash subsidies for the passenger transport sector was agreed upon in return for not raising fares, according to the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC).

This increase will last for three months and will be reviewed and renewed periodically.

The strike expanded over the past few days to include various means of transport.
