Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov the Syrian crisis and the potential dangers that might threaten the security of Jordan's borders in southern Syria.

They also discussed the presence of militias in southern Syria and the issue of drug smuggling.

He pointed out that the political solution rids Syria of terrorism and creates the conditions for the voluntary return of refugees.

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed the importance of embodying the Arab peace initiative. Lavrov added, "We welcome the results of the Arab summit," noting that it is similar to Moscow's position.

He pointed out the need to benefit from the comprehensive national dialogue in Iraq.

Lavrov noted that Russia briefed Jordan on its efforts to reach a peaceful solution in Ukraine, calling on the United Nations to fulfill all obligations related to the grain deal.
