Buckingham Palace posted a statement issued by the late Queen Elizabeth II's son, Charles, 73, the new King of Britain.

“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” he said.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held,” he ended.

However, it should be noted that the new King did not sign his name under the statement so it could be deduced that he intends to change his royal name as he becomes King to something other than Charles.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96, announced Buckingham Palace Thursday.

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow," The palace announced.

Elizabeth II ruled for more than 70 years, and is the longest-reigning British monarch and the oldest in the world.
