Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96, announced Buckingham Palace Thursday.

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow," The palace announced.

Earlier, the Palace said that Queen’s doctors were “concerned” for her health and recommended she “remain under medical supervision.”

The 96-year-old head of state -- Britain's longest-serving monarch -- had been dogged by health problems since last October that have left her struggling to walk and stand.

In April 2021, Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth ll, died at the age of 99.
