A man was arrested by the US authorities for a shooting that left three dead and one with injuries in Detroit on Sunday.

Detroit police Chief, James White, had announced earlier that a man and two women were found shot dead in what appeared to be separate and random incidents in the early hours of the morning.

He pointed out that another man spotted the suspect staring at the windows of the vehicles and asked him to stop, but the gunman fired back at him, indicating that the shootings were random.

Before the arrest, White said at a news conference that the suspect was a man in his late 20s to early 30s and about 5-foot-8 inches tall which is around 172 cm. Police had released a photo of him as the Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan urged anyone with information to contact the authorities.

"The suspect already shot four people. Please call immediately. ... Someone out there knows who this is. No one in this department wants a violent confrontation with this individual," Duggan said.

Police said that they were able to arrest the suspect from tips they had received but did not give any further information as White said “We mourn their loss and pray for those fighting for their lives at this hour. There are more questions than answers, but Detroiters can sleep peacefully tonight knowing this suspect is off the streets.”

Additionally, the police chief thanked “the women and men of the Detroit Police Department who put their own lives on the line around the clock to keep us safe. I’d like to also thank our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for their continued collaboration and support.”
