A child in Egypt married four men in one month, according to the Egyptian parliament member, Amira Al-Adli.
Adli said that the girl would marry someone “every week, get divorced and then marry another so there is no iddah or anything.”
Iddah is a waiting period required in Islam, during which a woman may not marry another man after the death of her husband or a divorce.
The member of parliament stressed that Egyptian law prohibits marriage before the age of 18.
She pointed out, however, that some families issue a customary marriage contract, which is not officially registered, until the girl reaches the age of 18, and if she becomes pregnant and has children, or the husband divorces her, a bigger problem arises.
She also stressed that there are marriages that take place at the age of 13.
