Thursday, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Kyiv of carrying out drone strikes on the site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, AFP reported.

The nuclear power plant has been under the control of the Kremlin since March.

“The drone strike (on July 18) was carried out in close proximity, that is, just a few tens of meters from the facilities critical for the safety of the nuclear power plant - the storage of spent nuclear fuel and the reactor cooling tank,” she said.

She added, “This confirms the will of the Ukrainian authorities to create the conditions for a nuclear disaster not only on their territory, but throughout Europe.”
