A beggar used a knife to assault anti-vagrancy employees as they tried to arrest him as well as other beggars near a traffic light in the Deir Ghbar area.

Another beggar threw stones at the employees and tried to assault and insult them, before he fled.

One of the beggars also called the anti-vagrancy teams via their hotline, threatening the employees and swearing at them with obscene words that infringe on dignity and threaten to kill.

The Ministry of Social Development submitted an official report to the Public Prosecutor of the incident and the death threat.

The Ministry also called on citizens to stop giving any money to beggars and those who illegally obtain it by claiming illness or need, and to support the efforts of the Ministry and its partners from the Public Security Directorate, the Amman Municipality and other municipalities in order to reduce this phenomenon that harms society.
