Today, May 25, which marks the 76th anniversary of Jordan’s independence, Jordanians celebrate this great occasion with pride, recalling the highest meanings of sacrifice, loyalty and belonging to our homeland, with the achievements that have raised and consolidated Jordan’s position, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Jordan gained its independence on May 25, 1946 following the end of the British Mandate.

Jordan’s independence took place during the reign of the founding King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein (the Emir at the time), who established the Jordanian state on April 11, 1921, under the name "Emirate of Transjordan.”

During his reign, Jordan’s independence was declared and recognized as an independent state named "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan."
