The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention announced the detection of the first case of monkeypox.

The ministry said in a statement that the patient is a 29-year-old woman visiting the UAE from West Africa and she is currently receiving the necessary medical care.

The ministry stressed that health authorities are taking all necessary measures. The patient’s contacts are being tested and follow-ups will be made.

The ministry confirmed that, in cooperation with health authorities, it follows a high level of epidemiological monitoring and detection mechanism to protect society from communicable diseases and quickly discover cases, as well as work to limit the spread of various diseases and viruses, including monkeypox.
