Dozens of Jenin residents gathered Friday on the memorial site of slain Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, where artist Fidaa Sammar installed paintings of the late Palestinian icon.

Sammar said, “The occupation's army tried to oppress the truth and journalists and that is why they killed Shireen. They couldn't enter the (Jenin) camp because of the resistance, which led to them killing Shireen.”

“As an artist I wanted to deliver a certain message, because not anyone can cover such an incident (killing of Shireen Abu Akleh). As artists we express ourselves using a paintbrush and a pencil.”
