Jordan ranked 120th on the Reporters Without Borders’ 2022 World Press Freedom Index, coinciding with World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3 of each year.

The report assessed the state of journalism in 180 countries and territories with Jordan ranking 120 this year rising from last years’ 129 ranking.

Jordan’s fact file in the report said the following:
“Jordan is known for its political stability, which distinguishes it from its neighbouring countries. But media professionals censor themselves and respect the implicit red lines around certain subjects.”

Norway, Denmark and Sweden got the first, second and third places respectively as the countries with the best situation regarding the freedom of press and North Korea ranked 180.

Lastly, the ranking included five classifications that grouped a set of countries together: good, satisfactory, problematic, difficult and very serious. The study classified Jordan’s situation as difficult.
