Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati declared official mourning on Monday, for the victims of the boat that sank last night off Tripoli’s shores.

Lebanese flags hoisted on all state administrations, official institutions and municipalities will be flown at half-mast, and regular programs on radio and television stations will be modified in line with the tragedy, according to Roya’s correspondent.

Mikati directed the Lebanese Social Affairs Minister Hector Hajjar, to head to Tripoli and help the families of the victims.

He also assigned the Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Commission, Major General Mohammad Khair, to stand by the victims' families and provide them with all possible assistance.

Saturday evening, at least six people had died, including a little girl, and almost 50 others were rescued after an overloaded migrant boat capsized off north Lebanon during a chase by naval forces, Lebanese officials said.
