At an international fundraiser for Ukraine organized Friday by the EU and Canada, a 16-year-old Ukrainian activist addressed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and accused the EU of fuelling the war in Ukraine by continuing to buy Russian oil and gas, AFP reported.

"Now the system is based on fossil fuels and it's based now on buying them. And you are now fueling this war. Europe is now fueling this war. World is doing it. €35 billion since 24th February, 1 billion for Ukraine," the Ukrainian activist said.

Von der Leyen replied that the EU is getting rid of Russian coal, looking at getting out of oil and investing heavily in renewable energy.
