Diplomats in Washington announced that the United Nations Security Council issued a decision to hold an urgent meeting before noon local time Friday at the request of Britain to study the repercussions of what happened to the largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine, according to the New York Times and the United Nations website.

Diplomats confirmed that the session, also requested by the United States, France, Norway, Ireland and Albania, would be held at the request of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The United Nations Human Rights Council voted Friday by a large majority in favor of launching a high-level investigation into violations committed during the war in Ukraine.

32 members of the 47-member council voted in favor of launching an investigation at the highest levels into alleged human rights violations, in the hope of holding the perpetrators accountable.

Only two countries, Russia and Eritrea, voted against the move.
