Comedian, director and screenwriter Volodymyr Zelensky took office in Ukraine in May 2019, after he removed ex-president Petro Poroshenko from power during the presidential election, which took place on April 21.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the candidate of the Servant of the People's Party, swept Poroshenko in the run-off, taking more than 65 percent of the vote to become the sixth president in the history of the country, which gained independence from the Soviet Union following its 1991 dissolution.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, 44, is of Jewish origins, as he belongs to a Jewish family, according to the Egyptian "Akhbar Al-Youm" website.

Zelensky is not the only one in Ukraine's political decision-making position who is of Jewish origins. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Groysman has been appointed as prime minister, who is also of Jewish origins.

In the beginning of 2019, the former Israeli Occupation Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, landed in Ukraine on a visit to Kyiv, during which he met with the Ukrainian President and the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

This is the first visit by a foreign president to Ukraine since Volodymyr Zelensky took office.

Not only that, but Netanyahu also became the first prime minister of the occupying country to visit Ukraine in two decades. The last visit of an Israeli Occupation Prime Minister to Ukraine was in 1999.
