The government announced Thursday that daylight saving time begins in the Kingdom at midnight, by advancing the clock by 60 minutes at 12AM Friday, Feb. 25.

Monday, MP Muhammad Aqeel Al-Shatnawi adopted a parliamentary memorandum addressed to the Speaker of the Council, Lawyer Abdel Karim Al-Dughmi, calling on the government to postpone daylight saving time.

The memorandum stated, “We request your Excellency to address the Prime Minister to reconsider the decision to submit working in daylight saving time on Feb. 25, 2022 and keep it on its usual schedule at the end of March of each year,” the memorandum explains the reason being as it would not be suitable for all segments of society and would be difficult to apply, whether in terms of working hours for employees or in terms of saving energy in all its uses.

The head of the Jordanian Astronomical Society (JAS), Dr. Ammar Al-Sakji, had stated that Jordan will be the only country in the world that switches to daylight saving time in February, explaining that sunrise at the new time will be 7:08 AM.

The Minister of State for Media Affairs, the official spokesperson for the government, Faisal Shboul, had said earlier that there was no going back and that the decision to change the timing at the end of February is final.
