120,000 oak trees to be planted in Yarmouk Nature Reserve
The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in the Yarmouk Nature
Reserve launched an initiative to plant the seeds of 120,000 deciduous oak trees.
This initiative is a part of the “Project for Improving the Green Infrastructure in Jordan,” which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment.
On Wednesday, the RSCN said that since the beginning of 2022, the project has provided around 170 jobs for agricultural and park maintenance workers.
The Yarmouk Nature Reserve director Mohammed Malkawi said that the project aims to restore 600 dunums of the reserve, which suffered since its establishment from overgrazing, logging and the severe impact of climate change.
