Monday, Jordanian Car Rental Association chief Saleh Juloq called on the government to reconsider the operational period of rental cars and change it to eight years.

He told Roya that the operational period used to be 12 years before the COVID-19 pandemic, now it is six years.

He noted that tourist car rental agencies rely on foreign and domestic tourism, however some vehicles have not been operated since the pandemic hit Jordan.

He added that rental agencies owe money to banks due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notably, there are 240 agencies in the Kingdom, 50 of which have not been licensed in the past two years, while the total number of rental cars pre-pandemic was 13,600 and declined to 9000 post-pandemic.

Additionally, around 2,000 to 2,500 people are employed in car rental agencies.
