Tuesday, Denmark announced that it is lifting nearly all COVID-19 restrictions authorities had imposed to contain the spread of the virus. This comes despite an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

Residents will no longer be required to wear face masks or present health passes indicating proof of vaccination, recovery or a recent negative test result.

Additionally, large events will once again be permitted, and nightclubs can return to operating normally.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen announced the easing of restrictions on Feb. 1.

She said, "We are ready to step out of the shadow of the coronavirus. We say 'goodbye' to restrictions and 'welcome' to the life we knew before."

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Denmark has confirmed 1,667,768 cases and 3,755 deaths.
