Thursday, coronavirus infections for the current wave may reach a peak within the next four weeks in Jordan, said Adel Al-Balbisi, adviser at the Prime Ministry for epidemiological affairs.

Balbisi expected that there will be an increase in the number of cases during the coming weeks, and that the current wave of the pandemic will extend between 4-6 weeks, and then begin to gradually recede.

He added that Jordan is witnessing the second week of the wave, and there are four more weeks. It is expected that the number of infections will start to drop by the middle of next month.

He predicted an increase in the number of cases for this week where they might reach 25-27 thousand cases compared to last week, accompanied by an increase in the positivity rates up to 11-12 percent.

Balbisi indicated that it is reassuring that the number of admissions to hospitals is under control, as there are 597 patients inside the Kingdom’s hospitals receiving treatment.

Jordan recorded 16 deaths and 6,216 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the crisis to 1,117,397.
