Friday, the World Health Organization recorded infections with the Omicron variant in 110 countries so far, and confirmed that this strain spreads faster than Delta, but it may be less severe.

A statement by the World Health Organization added that it is still unknown to what extent vaccines or previous infections with the virus contribute to decreasing the risk of infection with the Omicron variant.

Earlier, the World Health Organization described the newest variant as a variant of concern, based on evidence that it contains several mutations that may affect the behavior of the virus.

There is still a lot of research currently underway to assess how quickly it is transmitted, how severe it is, and the risk of reinfection.
