The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced Wednesday a gender-sensitive and multi-intervention action plan to increase women's representation in the tourism sector.

In a press statement, the ministry said that the five-year plan covers the areas of employment, institutionalization, economic empowerment, education and training, and leadership.

Earlier, the ministry held several meetings with international donors to lay out the plan, which had been drawn up in consultation with representatives from tourism associations, women working in the sector and owners of small and medium enterprises.

The meetings, it added, tackled the challenges that hinder women's economic participation in the tourism sector, and highlighted a set of proposed recommendations on improving the situation, and breaking barriers that exclude women from equal job opportunities in the sector, in addition to the COVID-19 outbreak, which affected the sector overall.
