Tunisia records first infection with Omicron mutant

Friday, the Tunisian Minister of Health, Ali Mrabet, announced that his country had recorded its first infection with the new Omicron mutant. 

Mrabet said that the case was a 23-year-old man who came to Tunisia from Congo on a flight from Istanbul.

He indicated that the young man underwent a coronavirus test, and after testing positive, the result was analyzed and and the infection was found to be that of the Omicron mutant. The man is currently quarantined. 

The Minister of Health said the speed with which Tunisian authorities were able to detect the mutant proves that the country is fully prepared to deal with the pandemic and its consequences.
