Sunday, professor of infectious diseases, Dr. Dirar Balawi, stressed the need to give the third “booster” dose to all citizens who received the coronavirus vaccine over six months ago.

In an interview with Roya, Balawi said that it is necessary to receive the vaccine, especially the third dose for the elderly, those with chronic diseases, those who suffer from immunodeficiency and those who receive chemotherapy.

He added that the third dose of vaccines was approved to break the epidemic curve, noting that the virus over time weakens and decreases.

And he indicated that all viruses have many mutations that appear due to the presence of a sizable number of unvaccinated people, according to Balawi.

There is an escalation in the epidemic curve in Jordan, due to the lack of commitment to the public safety procedures, he added.

Balawi stressed the need to commit and implement the necessary health measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

In regards to the mutations of the coronavirus, he said that the reason for them is the presence of unvaccinated people, and that their bodies are considered factories for the mutant.

Balawi pointed out that the numbers and studies confirm that the Pfizer vaccine is safe and the license was given for it to be granted to children over the age of four.

He added that the same goes for the Sinopharm vaccine.

It is necessary for young people with chronic diseases such as asthma, heart and kidney illnesses to get the vaccine before others, even if their symptoms are mild in the case of infection, they can still transmit the infection to other people, Balawi added.
