The Ministry of Water and Irrigation published on its website and on social media platforms a PDF of the document that was signed Monday, Nov. 22, in Dubai, between the governments of the United Arab Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Tel Aviv, in the presence of the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the UAE’s special envoy for climate change, Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber.

The ministry said in a statement that the content of the document is a declaration of an intention between the three countries to study the feasibility of establishing a renewable energy project in Jordan to be implemented by an Emirati company and a water desalination project to supply Jordan with 200 million cubic meters from the Mediterranean Sea.

Under clause (V), the document is only a declaration of intent that does not affect any obligations or legal rights of the signatory parties under international law.

The statement indicated that according to the document, the three parties intend to study the feasibility of both projects during a period of time that ends in the third quarter of 2022.

The document stipulated in the first item that implementing both projects depends on each other, meaning that no project will be implemented without the other.
