Consultant of microbial infections, Dr. Montaser Al-Belbisi, said Friday that the high rate of positive coronavirus tests indicates that the situation in Jordan is very dangerous, especially as the winter is about to begin.

Al-Belbisi added in a statement that the pandemic has become a pandemic of the unvaccinated, and that the unvaccinated threaten the epidemiological situation, education, public health and the economy.

According to him, only around 36 percent of Jordanian residents are vaccinated, whereas 80 percent are required to be vaccinated in order for the country to reach herd immunity.

Belbisi called for a national vaccination campaign that obliges school students and pregnant women to receive the vaccine.

Regarding the return to closures, he said that in the event of an increase in cases of infection, it is necessary to make some necessary closures to avoid preventing infection.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Jordan has recorded 11,331 deaths and 909,415 cases of the virus.
