Tuesday, a joint press conference was held by Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.

Safadi stated that Jordan will continue to work to provide adequate financial support to UNRWA, stressing that the international community must not abandon the refugee until they have reclaimed their right to return to their country.

“We have made an effort to provide financial support to UNRWA that will last for years,” said Jordan’s Foreign Minister.

If UNRWA stops providing its services, then the international community will face a catastrophe, according to Safadi.

He added that the agency was subjected to a political liquidation campaign in the past.

UNRWA Commissioner-General said, “If we do not find a quick solution to the agency's crisis, it will be on the verge of collapse.”

When asked about the financial support made by the Gulf countries, the Commissioner-General said that although agreements have been signed between UNRWA and some Gulf countries, financial support has “significantly decreased.”
