Friday night, at least eight people were killed and others injured on the opening night of the Astroworld Music Festival in Houston, Texas.

The incident happened during Travis Scott’s concert during a crowd surge, according to reporters.

According to additional information, over 300 people were treated at an on-site field hospital, 17 were transported to hospital and 11 were in cardiac arrest.

"That caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries, people began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic," the fire chief said.

The Houston Fire Department said that its units had moved to a location near the NRG Park complex after receiving reports of a number of civilian casualties.

Houston police Executive Assistant Chief Lt. Larry Satterwhite, who was near the front of the stage, said the situation developed quickly, according to NBCDFW.

"It seems like it happened with just over the course of a few minutes —suddenly we had several people down on the ground experiencing some type of cardiac arrest or some type of medical episode," he said.
