Saturday, the Minister of Health Feras Hawari said achieving to comprehensive health insurance is a "national priority” which Jordan seeks to reach by 2030 by signing a number of international conventions.

This came during his speech at "Towards Comprehensive Health Coverage in Jordan" conference, organized by the Jordan Association For Medical Insurance (JAMI) Conference, in cooperation with stakeholders.

Hawari noted that in a letter to the Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh's government, His Majesty King Abdullah II directed to expand the base of uninsured people under Jordan's health insurance program.

He said that the government provides free health coverage to any patient suffering from a disease with a high treatment cost, primarily cancer, kidney failure and chronic diseases.

According to Hawari, over the past years, Jordan has covered nearly 650,000 children under free health insurance, adding that the Kingdom also provided coverage to citizens over the age of 60.

By 2018, the rate of those covered under the health coverage has reached 72 percent, according to a study conducted by the Department of Statistics (DoS), he lastly added.
