Facebook announced Wednesday that it plans to rebrand the company next week, according to a report.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and chief executive, plans to talk about the name change at a company event which is set to be held next week but it could be unveiled sooner, according to The Verge.
Facebook said in a statement that it “doesn’t comment on rumors or speculation."
Under the plans, Facebook would change the name of its holding company but not that of its eponymous social media platform known as “big blue app.”
The platform will be under the new name of the parent company, which will include the rest of the applications owned by Facebook such as WhatsApp and Instagram, according to The Verge.
The Verge reported that the new name for the holding company could be linked to Horizon, a word used in at least two virtual reality products that the company is developing.
Facebook was launched 17 years ago.
