Friday, the Saudi-led military coalition confirmed the killing of more than 180 Houthi rebels in new strikes south of the strategic city of Marib.

The coalition stated, according to what was quoted by the official Saudi Press Agency, that "the targeting operations included the destruction of 10 military vehicles and human losses of more than 180 terrorist elements."

The battles to control Marib have killed hundreds of Houthis in recent days, according to the coalition.

The rebels rarely comment on their losses, and AFP was unable to independently verify the toll.

The conflict in Yemen is between a government backed by a Saudi-led military coalition since 2015, and the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who have controlled large areas in the north and west of the country, as well as the capital, Sanaa, since 2014.

The conflict resulted in the killing of tens of thousands of people, including many civilians, according to several humanitarian organizations.

Since last February, the Houthi rebels have launched an offensive to seize Marib, which has been renewed in recent weeks after stopping for a while.

About ten thousand people were displaced in September alone in Ma'rib governorate, according to the International Organization for Migration.
