British Conservative MP David Amess has died after being stabbed at an event in his constituency in southeast England, British media reported Friday.

While the police did not name Amess, they confirmed that "a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder" after a person was stabbed and died.

"We are not looking for another person in connection with this incident," Essex Police said, adding that the 25-year-old was arrested and a knife was found.

Police said earlier that they had responded after receiving reports of a "stabbing attack" shortly after 12:05 (1105 GMT).

British media, including Sky News and BBC identified the victim as 69-year-old politician David Amess, a member of the Conservative Party.
