Thursday evening, the Lebanese Army announced the arrest of nine people suspected of shooting in the Tayouneh events.
As protesters headed to the Adliyeh area in Beirut for a demonstration, there was an altercation and an exchange of fire occurred, killing a number of citizens and wounding others, according to the statement of the army.
The statement added that, immediately, the army reinforced its deployment in the area, conducting foot and motorized patrols, and raided a number of places in search of the shooters, and arrested nine people from both sides.
The statement noted that the concerned parties were contacted to contain the situation and prevent an incitement of sedition.
