Russia Thursday recorded a daily record of new infections and deaths from the coronavirus, as the epidemic peaks amid a slow vaccine campaign and relaxed health restrictions. 

According to a daily toll published by the Russian government, 31,299 people were infected with the virus in the past 24 hours and 986 died, which is a record number since the beginning of the epidemic.
