Friday, Panama police apologized after participating in a shooting course run by the Israeli Occupation, where they used pictures of people dressed in traditional Arab headdress (Kufiya) as targets officers were shooting at.

According to the BBC, the Panamanian police published the pictures of the training on Twitter, but were later deleted after receiving backlash and outrage on social media.

The Panamanian Committee of Solidarity with Palestine said that such a course promoted “violence and racism, so that anyone who wears a hijab or something similar can be classified as a terrorist.”

“This training constitutes a violation of the protocols referring to the shooting courses that prohibit the use of distinctive figures of the Arab peoples as objects of hatred and persecution,” the committee said.

The committee also asked the government to cancel the “intervention” of foreign countries in the training of security forces.

The National Police of Panama issued a statement of apology saying: “We regret that during an act in which as an institution we participated as guests, a situation outside the nature of our mission and duty as the first security institution arose.”

The police said that “they are respectful cultural, religious and ethnic differences.”
