Nine killed in hospital fire in Romania

Friday, nine people died after a fire broke out in an intensive care unit at a Romanian hospital treating COVID-19 patients, according to officials.

This incident is the country’s third deadly hospital fire in less than a year.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at the hospital which is located in the eastern city of Constanta at around 0755 GMT.

Interim Health Minister Cseke Attila said that a total of 113 patients were in the hospital at the time the fire broke out, including 10 in the intensive care unit.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Romania has confirmed 1,233,668 cases and 37,041 deaths.
