Thursday, the Tadamon (Sisterhood is Global Institute Jordan - SIGI) said that since the beginning of 2021, a total of 13 women were murdered by men in Jordan.

Additionally, Tadamon said that two women survived after they were stabbed, one by her husband and the other by her father.

Jan. 25, 2021, a young man confessed to killing his 20-year-old sister by beating her to death in the Marka area.

March 6, 2021, a father killed his two daughters (two and three years old) with a sharp object in southern Badia.

March 8, 2021, a man stabbed and killed his ex-wife inside Al-Rusaifa Sharia Court.

May 26, 2021, a man stabbed his 80-year-old mother to death in the Al Hussein camp area in Amman.

In June, 2021, a brother burned his sister to death in Zarqa Governorate.

June 28, 2021, a husband killed his wife by beating her to death in the Balqa Governorate.

Sept. 14, 2021, a wife in her twenties was burned to death by her husband after he poured kerosene on her. She died a week after her stay in a hospital.

Tadamon said that a total of 21 murders were committed against women and girls during 2019, while 20 murders occurred in 2020.

However, Tadamon said that "There are no official figures on the extent of violence against unmarried girls and women aged 50 years and over."

Tadamon said that the survey which was conducted by the Population and Family Health Survey between 2017-2018 (which is a national survey and sampled by all governorates of the Kingdom) did not include married or previously married women aged 50 years and over, unmarried women and girls aged 15 and above.

Additionally, it did not include men who are married or unmarried and aged 60 years and over.

In the absence of official figures on the extent of domestic violence against women and girls lead to a lack of resources and knowledge on domestic violence in the Kingdom, according to the agency.
