According to statistics reported by the Traffic Department Monday, traffic acccidents kill one person in Jordan every 19 hours. 

Furthermore, one person is run over every three hours and someone is injured every 42.9 minutes. 

The Traffic Department indicated that 558 citizens were seriously injured during the past year, as a result of non-compliance with traffic rules.

According to the annual traffic accident report for 2020, the total number of moderate injuries resulting from traffic accidents reached 4,788, while minor injuries amounted to 7,344 injuries during the same year.

The highest number of injuries came from the 24-26 age group in 2020. 

Vehicle ownership increased from one vehicle for every 58 people in 1971 to one vehicle for every six people in 2020.

The report said that the number of traffic accidents in Jordan decreased per 10,000 vehicles during the years (2016-2020) at an annual rate of 10.1 percent, while the number of traffic accident deaths per 10,000 vehicles during the same period decreased at an annual rate of 13.1 percent.
