Sunday, the Ministry of Interior called on citizens to avoid participating in large gatherings that help the coronavirus to spread more easily.

The ministry indicated that the pandemic is still spreading in countries around the world, and Jordan is ‘no exception.’

Earlier, an epidemiologist, Wael Hayajneh, said that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet.

He added that during 2021, the world witnessed three waves of the coronavirus.

Hayajneh told Roya’s Nabd Albalad Saturday that receiving the coronavirus vaccine is a must in order to limit the spread of the virus.

He pointed out that around 30 percent of the world population has been fully vaccinated against the virus. However, he said that only rich countries reached high percentages, while the vaccination rates in poor countries reached one percent.

According to him, the vaccine rate in Jordan is similar to the global rate- around 30 percent. However, in order to reach a safe and coronavirus-free society, he said, vaccination rates should be above 80 percent in Jordan.

He said that the coronavirus will turn into a seasonal epidemic like the normal flu, and receiving COVID-19 vaccines will be required on an annual basis.

Saturday, Jordan recorded 11 deaths and 489 new coronavirus cases.
