Wednesday, the Ministry of Education denied making any changes to the geography textbook for the tenth grade.
In a statement, the ministry said that what was circulated on social media about removing the name of Palestine from a map in the geography textbook is ‘inaccurate,’ as Palestine was initially not included in the first edition of the textbook which was released in 2016.
The statement clarified that no changes have been made to the map.
The ministry confirmed that the maps included in the textbooks are from the Jordanian Geographic Center, indicating that there is no intention to remove the name of Palestine from anywhere.
The ministry lastly stressed that it will take into consideration to add Palestine to the map in the geography textbook for the tenth grade.
Earlier, social media users circulated a picture of the geography textbook for the tenth grade, showing a map of Jordan and parts of the neighboring Arab countries with the names of the countries except for Palestine.
The users took to social media to express their frustration following this.
