Joe Biden is expected to arrive in New York Tuesday to assess the damage caused by Storm Ida, especially as he urges massive investments to tackle climate change.

The US President will visit Manville, New Jersey and Queens, New York.

The devastating floods Wednesday evening left 47 people dead in and around New York City and caused extensive damage.

Pictures of the New York subway swept by torrential rain have spread around the world.

Last Friday, Joe Biden visited Louisiana, the first US state to be hit by Ida, which was then as strong as a hurricane.

The Democratic president stressed the need for the United States to invest heavily in addressing climate change, particularly in aging infrastructure.

Joe Biden launched two major investment programs, one in infrastructure (roads, bridges, the electricity grid) and the other in social benefits (education, health, etc.) with a cumulative amount that could reach $5,000 billion.

They must still be approved by the US Congress, through a difficult compromise between the interests of some members of the Republican opposition, the demands of the far left in the Democratic Party and the fears of centrists in his camp about the planned massive spending.
