17-year-old football star Zaki Anwari is one of the desperate Afghans that fell to their deaths after clinging to a US military plane earlier this week amid the Taliban takeover of Kabul, Afghanistan's General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports reported.

Anwari played for the national youth football team.

Anwari was one of thousands of Afghans who flocked to Hamid Karzai International Airport on Monday, a day after the Taliban seized the Afghan capital, hoping to board a plane outside the country.

To many, the death of Anwari illustrates the extent of the suffering experienced by young people in Afghanistan.

Video clips documented people falling from the plane, some of whom were killed at the airport, as a result of the terrible impact on the ground.

The US Air Force's Office of Special Investigation (OSI) said it was reviewing all available information regarding the C-17, as well as civilian casualties.

"In addition to online videos and press reports of people falling from the plane on takeoff, human remains were discovered in the C-17 wheel well after landing at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar," a miltary statement read earlier this week.

At least five people are believed to have died in the chaos on the ground in Kabul, during which US forces fired into the air to deter people from making their way to official evacuation flights.
