The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Affairs, responsible for the coronavirus file, Dr. Adel Al-Belbisi, confirmed that the epidemiological situation in Jordan is under control despite the recent increase in infections.

Regarding the return to face-to-face education in Jordan, Belbisi said that what distinguishes the return to schools at the present time, as compared to the previous attempt, is the PCR positivity rate. Previously, the rate was over 10 percent and it is now under five, indicating that the epidemiological situation is much better.

The vaccine has also become available in Jordan, and over 60,000 young people between the ages of 12-17 have already been vaccinated. Additionally, rapid tests are also now available.

Thus far, about 37 percent of the population in Jordan is fully vaccinated. Achieving societal immunity, he said, requires an 85 percent vaccination rate.
