Monday, the Parliament’s Health and Environment Committee met with the Minister of Health, Feras Al-Hawari to discuss the power outage incident at Gardens Hospital and to determine its causes.

Hawari said that what happened in the Gardens Hospital was an electrical short that can occur in any hospital worldwide.

He said the woman who died after the power outage was found to have a severe pulmonary embolism caused by a lack of oxygen.

Hawari promised that the Ministry of Health would make every possible effort to avoid the recurrence of power outages in the future.

Hawari announced at dawn on Sunday that two deaths had been recorded at Gardens Hospital, one of which occurred after the power outage in parts of the hospital designated for COVID-19 patients, some of whom were situated in the intensive care units and respirators.

The Public Prosecutor in Amman, Hassan Al-Abdallat, decided to form an investigation team comprising of five public prosecutors into the electricity outage incident at Gardens Hospital.

The team began investigation procedures and examined the scene of the incident, collected the medical files of the deceased, and seized any evidence that would help within the investigation.

The bodies of the two deceased were examined and transferred to the National Center for Forensic Medicine at Al-Bashir Hospitals, to determine the cause of death. It will take four days to generate autopsy results.
