Friday, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, member of the Executive Office of the International Olympic Committee and President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, attended the opening of the 32nd edition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, at the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital.

The Olympic Committee indicated in its media message that the opening ceremony focused on the suffering experienced by athletes around the world during the past year due to the coronavirus, which caused the Olympics to be postponed for a whole year.

The paintings presented during the opening ceremony praised the determination of the players and their continued home training over the past months, until they were able to qualify and reserve their seats for the largest sporting event in the world.

The participating countries and their members began entering the stadium, where the Greek mission entered first in honor of the event, because it was the country that witnessed the birth of the ancient and modern Olympic Games.

Countries then entered according to the order of the Japanese characters, with the Jordanian delegation falling into the 193rd place in the parading queue.

The national taekwondo player Juliana Al-Sadiq and the national boxing team player Ziad Ashish were honored to carry the Jordanian flag.

The President of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, Seiko Hashimoto, thanked the frontline workers in the health field, who showed tremendous efforts during the last period to stand up against the pandemic.

The President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, pointed out the importance of holding the Tokyo Olympics to emphasize the power of sport in unification, thanking the Japanese people for their appreciation and support for the Olympics.

The Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, announced the opening of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Japanese tennis star, Naomi Osaka, was honored to light the Olympic flame in the Olympic cauldron, marking the start of the Tokyo Olympics.

Jordan's participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is characterized by the presence of the largest Olympic team represented by 14 athletes in eight sports, which is the largest number of sports that Jordan represented in throughout the history of the Olympic Games.
