Iraqi Ministry of Health calls for two-week lockdown as cases soar

Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Health demanded the imposition of a comprehensive lockdown for a period of two weeks due to the high number of new infections with the coronavirus.

In a proposal submitted to the Prime Minister, the ministry said it needed to implement a comprehensive 14-day lockdown due to the growing seriousness of the epidemiological situation in the country. 

It warned that the health sector is growingly overwhelmed. 

The ministry said, if the lockdown is not applied, malls, restaurants, cafes, parks, event halls, swimming pools, in addition to places of worship, must be closed.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iraq is gradually increasing, ranging between 7,000-8,000 deaths per day.
