Wednesday, Pope Francis, 84, was seen leaving Rome’s Gemelli Polytechnic hospital, 10 days after undergoing a planned surgery to remove half his colon.
July 4, Francis had half of his colon removed for a severe narrowing of his large intestine, his first major surgery since he became pope in 2013.
The pontiff was admitted to the hospital "for a scheduled surgery for symptomatic diverticular stenosis of the colon."
Born on December 17, 1936 in Argentina, Francis lost part of his right lung at the age of 21. He also suffers from a hip problem and sciatica.
