The National Center for Human Rights followed up on what was reported by some social media platforms regarding the Greater Amman Municipality destroying the vehicle of a street vendor in a manner that violates national law and human rights.

The center added in a press statement Thursday, "The aforementioned incident also contradicts the international covenants that Jordan has committed to and seeks to implement."

The statement, which said this was not the first time such an event had occured, stressed the rejection of such practices and the need to hold accountable all those involved in such acts.

In order to ensure that such incidents do not recur, the Center emphasized the need to review the legislation and instructions governing the matter in question, in a manner that ensures the protection of the rights of individuals, and the development of clear mechanisms to deal with money and property belonging to individuals in the event of confiscation, and to ensure that they are returned to them after the removal of the violation.
